Officers of the Tbilisi Police Department on Friday prevented the distribution of a particularly large quantity of narcotics - nearly four kilograms of Alpha-PVP - following a complex anti-drug police operation.
According to the ministry, the seized drugs have an estimated black-market value of approximately GEL 1.5 million.
A foreign citizen has been arrested on charges of attempting to illegally purchase and possess a particularly large quantity of narcotics, attempting to transport the drugs illegally, and attempting to facilitate their illegal distribution.
The investigation established that the suspect planned to sell the large quantity of narcotics, which had been covertly shipped to him from abroad. According to investigators, the drugs were to be collected by the suspect at a parking area in Tbilisi.
As a result of extensive investigative measures, law enforcement officers seized nearly four kilograms of Alpha-PVP as evidence in one of Georgia’s regions. Police subsequently carried out a controlled delivery of the package to the intended recipient.
Investigators said the suspect arrived at the designated parking lot in Tbilisi to collect the parcel in accordance with a pre-arranged criminal plan and then attempted to leave the capital.
Following investigative actions, police stopped the man while he was driving his vehicle near the exit of Tbilisi. A search of the vehicle led to the seizure of the package containing the narcotics, as well as materials allegedly intended for drug packaging.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs said the investigation is being carried out on drug-related charges under the Criminal Code of Georgia.
The offences carry penalties of up to 20 years in prison or life imprisonment.
