Georgian President Mikheil Kavelashvili on Thursday said Georgia's historic role has always been based on safeguarding its national interests and fostering relations with other countries founded on mutual respect.

In his interview with Imedi TV, Kavelashvili noted that during the most successful periods of Georgian statehood, the country's strength largely stemmed from a clear understanding of its national interests and a pragmatic approach to relations with states with which Georgia maintained political and economic ties.

“We do not threaten anyone. Our priority is protecting our country's interests, and we are ready to build relations with every state based on mutual trust, mutual respect and mutual benefit”, he said.

According to the President, this state-oriented approach continues today through a foreign policy grounded in national interests, with its key priorities being the preservation of peace and stability, economic development and equal cooperation with international partners.

“In a geopolitically challenging environment, the results Georgia has achieved have also been positively assessed by our international partners. I believe our country's development demonstrates that by adapting our historic role to modern realities, we are able to protect our national interests while remaining open to cooperation with all our partners”, Kavelashvili said.
