Georgia’s ruling party Sec Gen calls UNM leader Giorgi Baramidze’s statements against Georgian state and army part of ongoing hybrid war

Kakha Kaladze, the Mayor of Tbilisi and Secretary General of the ruling Georgian Dream party, on Friday described as highly serious an accusation made by Giorgi Baramidze, one of the leaders of the opposition United National Movement party, regarding Georgian soldiers who fought in the Abkhaz war, calling it a continuation of the ongoing hybrid war against the Georgian state.
Speaking to journalists, Kaladze said the accusation amounted to an insult to both the Georgian state and the Georgian army.
“This is also a continuation of the hybrid war being waged against the Georgian state and its people. What we heard was a very serious statement directed against both the Georgian state and the Georgian army”, Kaladze said.
“It is unthinkable to hear such statements and leave them without a response. This is a clear act of betrayal and an insult to the Georgian state and the Georgian army. These individuals are harming the country and acting against its interests. They have no love for our homeland, and such actions must be met with an appropriate response”, he concluded.
The Prosecutor General’s Office of Georgia has launched an investigation into allegations of treason and sabotage following remarks made by Baramidze regarding the Abkhaz war and the prisoner exchange process.
The investigation was opened after the State Service for Veterans’ Affairs called on relevant law enforcement authorities to examine Baramidze’s statements within the scope of their legal authority and take appropriate action if necessary.
