PM: Georgia demonstrated in international courts that Georgian soldiers committed no war crimes

Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze said on Saturday that Georgia had demonstrated in international courts that the Georgian army and Georgian soldiers did not commit war crimes during the conflict.
“The Georgian army and Georgian soldiers did not commit war crimes. We proved this at the Hague court, and we proved at the Strasbourg court that Georgian soldiers did not violate human rights”, Kobakhidze told journalists.
According to the Prime Minister, proceedings at both courts represented important victories for Georgia and its national interests.
“It was very important to have both The Hague and Strasbourg, where we proved two things: first, that the Georgian army and Georgian soldiers did not commit war crimes - we proved this at the Hague court; and second, at the Strasbourg court, we proved that Georgian soldiers did not violate human rights”, he said.
Kobakhidze described the outcomes as “principled victories” for Georgia, saying they demonstrated the government’s approach to protecting the country’s national interests.
“Both The Hague and Strasbourg were principled victories for our country, which determined many things”, the Prime Minister concluded.
