Georgia is more independent and sovereign than ever, and has a free government driven by national interests that will do everything possible to restore the country’s territorial integrity, said on Saturday Georgian President Mikheil Kavelashvili at the Mukhatgverdi Brothers’ Cemetery.

“Today, I want to tell the public that, more than ever, Georgia is independent and sovereign. It has a free government that serves national interests and will do everything to restore our territorial integrity”, Kavelashvili said.

According to the President, the Georgian government is pursuing a targeted policy aimed at peacefully reconciling with its Ossetian and Abkhaz brothers and sisters and enabling them to live together peacefully in a united state.

“This is our goal. I am confident that more and more people will share the spirit that our state and government have today”, Kavelashvili noted.

He said Georgia was extending a sincere hand to people living on the other side of the conflict and expressed confidence that there are people among them who share the same vision.

“We sincerely extend our hand to the people living on the other side of the conflict, and we believe that there are people among them who think like us”, he continued.

“There is no reality in which anyone can imagine Georgia existing without Abkhazia and Samachablo. Accepting such an idea is impossible”, the President said.

He added that the international community should understand that no Georgian citizen would ever accept these territories being separated from Georgia.

“Everyone in the world must understand that not a single citizen of Georgia, ever and at any stage, will allow these territories to be outside Georgia. This is an axiom, no one can deny it”, Kavelashvili said.

The President expressed confidence that reconciliation and reunification would ultimately be achieved and that all people would have a dignified place in a united Georgian state.

“We are confident that this process will certainly take place, Georgia will be united, and every person will be represented with dignity in our state”, he concluded.
