Irakli Kadagishvili, the Chair of the Georgian Parliament’s Regional Policy and Self-Government Committee, on Friday accused the opposition of putting international political agendas ahead of Georgia’s national interests, recalling statements made after Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
Speaking about opposition parties, Kadagishvili said he particularly remembered remarks suggesting that it would be preferable for “Russian bombs to fall on Georgia” rather than for the country to face criticism for refusing to join what he described as “anti-Russian hysteria”.
“We remember all of their statements, especially the symbolic words that it would be better for Russian bombs to fall on us than for Georgia to face this shame because it was not joining anti-Russian hysteria”, he said.
He further stressed that the opposition has never placed Georgia’s national interests at the center of its political agenda.
“This reflects their approach to what they did against Georgia when Russia invaded Ukraine. In their understanding, Georgia is part of a large international project, and the goals of that project are more important than the national interests of our country”, Kadagishvili concluded.
