Georgian Parliament official: Georgia seeks to restore EU relations based on bloc’s founding principles and values

Irakli Kadagishvili, the Chair of the Georgian Parliament’s Regional Policy and Self-Government Committee, on Wednesday said Georgia’s primary objective was to restore relations with the European Union on the foundational principles and values on which the bloc was established.
Speaking to Imedi TV, Kadagishvili said Georgia remained committed to the European ideals that had shaped the country’s integration path, while arguing that current EU leadership had moved away from those principles.
“Our goal is for relations with the European Union to return to the principles on which the European Union was founded”, he said.
“We have not betrayed our principles. The current leadership of the European Union, as well as the broader geopolitical circumstances that emerged, particularly after the outbreak of the war, have placed enormous pressure on Georgia. However, we are withstanding this pressure and continuing the country’s development”, Kadagishvili added.
