Georgian PM stresses international law, sovereignty at UN General Assembly peace discussion

Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Wednesday participated in a high-level thematic discussion on peace, organised by Finland on the sidelines of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly.
The event, titled “Strengthening the Promise of Peace by Leveraging Available Opportunities”, brought together leaders to discuss ways to prevent and peacefully resolve conflicts, with an emphasis on upholding the principles of international law.
In his address, Kobakhidze highlighted the occupation of 20 percent of Georgia’s territory, noting that the country had experienced firsthand the consequences of disregarding the norms of international law.
The Prime Minister also stressed the importance of respecting national sovereignty and underscored the critical role of joint international efforts and the more effective use of diplomatic tools in addressing shared challenges.
The closed-format thematic discussion was organised by Finnish President Alexander Stubb and attended by leaders from various countries.
