Kakha Kaladze, Mayor of Tbilisi and Secretary General of the ruling Georgian Dream party, said on Sunday that there should be no expectation of a response from European countries to the events of October 4, 2025, arguing that the scenario had been planned and managed from abroad.
In his remarks, Kaladze said the events had been preceded by months of campaigning around an alleged coup attempt and plans to overthrow the Government.
“Let’s not expect any response from Europe, either now or in the future, to what happened on October 4, because this was a scenario and an issue arranged from outside. The process was managed from abroad”, he said.
According to Kaladze, Georgia’s international partners neither condemned calls for the Government’s overthrow nor criticised the subsequent attempt to put such a scenario into practice.
“Let’s recall the campaign that was conducted for months around a coup and the overthrow of the Government. No one made even a single statement at the time, nor did anyone condemn what happened when they attempted to put all of this into practice”, Kaladze said.
He recalled that participants in the October 4 events tore down a fence surrounding the Presidential Administration and attempted to enter the building.
“However, the relevant services acted highly professionally and took the necessary measures. Several people were detained and held criminally responsible, and some of them admitted their crimes. As of today, those who committed crimes and subsequently admitted them have been released”, he noted.
Kaladze also commented on a letter sent from prison by Paata Burchuladze, one of those detained in connection with the October 4 case, in which Burchuladze wrote that “the Georgian people rejected the Georgian Dream party”.
“What should I say in response to him? How can anyone seriously respond to Paata Burchuladze? Let’s recall his actions, how this person behaved, what statements he made and how it all ended for him. I think everything is clear and obvious”. Kaladze concluded.
