Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Wednesday asserted that if the collective United National Movement opposition were to come to power, the country would “quickly” become a “second front” amid the ongoing war in Ukraine.
Kobakhidze explained that the public was unaware of much of the sensitive information as the Government was managing to ensure national security.
“We have to take care of many things. Unfortunately, others don't care about many things, but we have to be careful, so we don't make certain information public. It is important to be careful about certain conditions and relationships, and because of this we have to not disclose certain information, including regarding certain meetings”, Kobakhidze said.
When asked about revealing the identity of a person who allegedly said, “either you’ll engage into war or you’ll leave power”, Kobakhidze refused to do it, highlighting the importance of the source over the statement itself.
He reiterated his belief that the collective United National Movement opposition coming to power would quickly destabilise Georgia, turning it into a “second front” in regional conflicts.
“As for the threats, I can tell you with full responsibility - if theoretically we can imagine the processes like this, may God protect us, practically, this will not happen, because the Georgian people stand first and foremost on guarding the interests of this country, but if we theoretically imagine the collective United National Movement opposition coming to power, for example, by November, after the elections, I guarantee you, if not in two, three and four months, but within days Georgia will become a second front. I guarantee this based on the information I have”, Kobakhidze concluded.
