Georgian PM highlights maintaining “pragmatic policy” with Russia as one of “main” tools to maintain peace, protect strategic interests of country

Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Thursday said the peaceful resolution of the conflict between Georgia and Russia would remain his Government’s one of the top priorities.
In his speech at a plenary session in the legislative body, Kobakhidze noted that the Georgian Government would maintain a pragmatic policy in relations with Russia, as this was one of the main tools to maintain peace and protect the strategic interests of the country.
“The policy of non-recognition [of the Russian-occupied territories] has been very successful all these years, since 2012. Of course, we will continue to ensure this [policy] and we will have a pragmatic policy when it comes to Georgian-Russian relations. Pragmatic policy is one of the main tools to maintain peace and protect the strategic interests of our country”, Kobakhidze said.
“The peaceful resolution of the conflict between Georgia and Russia will, of course, remain one of the top priorities. We have red lines, this is naturally related to the deoccupation of the [Russian-occupied] territories of our country, we have our aspirations and these red lines will be followed to the end. At the same time, we will maintain a pragmatic policy”, he continued.
Kobakhidze also highlighted the importance of further developing friendly relations with neighbouring countries, Azerbaijan, Armenia and Turkey as well as implementing strategic projects with them and noted that this would continue in the future.
