Georgia’s ruling party Sec Gen says those making anti-state statements do not represent Georgia or its people

Kakha Kaladze, the mayor of Tbilisi and secretary general of the ruling Georgian Dream party, on Friday criticised domestic non-governmental organisations, following reports that several representatives had approached the Dutch Parliament to request sanctions against Georgian officials.

In his remarks, Kaladze dismissed the actions of these organisations, claiming their behavior is expected given their ties to foreign interests.

The official stressed that individuals who make similar statements “have nothing in common with Georgia’s national interests”.

“These people are agents and traitors. We all know how this system works - they are funded from outside the country to serve their patrons and betray their homeland. It is no surprise that they make statements against Georgia, at times calling for the suspension of visa liberalisation or even the revocation of EU candidate status”, Kaladze said.

He also claimed that such actors have no remaining public support within Georgia, arguing that their influence has diminished as a result of their own actions.

“The public clearly sees and evaluates who serves whom. One thing is clear - these individuals have nothing to do with Georgia or the interests of its people”, Kaladze concluded.
