Georgia refuses to become middle ground for foreign powers to settle scores, says Georgia Parliament Speaker

Georgian Parliament speaker Shalva Papuashvili on Friday said Georgia is not a place where countries should settle their disputes, in response to a journalist’s question about the ministry of foreign affairs’ stance on a statement by the Iranian ambassador.

In his remarks, Papuashvili stressed that Georgia refuses to become a middle ground for foreign powers to settle scores, specifically referencing the complex dynamics between the United States and Iran.

“It is clear that there is a desire or a task for this, and it is clear what the current relationship between the US and Iran is, but I would call on everyone not to use the presence in Georgia to resolve their mutual relations. Georgia's policy of peace is clear to all. It is important for us that, in this particular crisis situation, Georgia goes through all these processes peacefully, using the relevant tools, political decisions, and dialogue”, he said.

“As you can see, we are achieving this, and today we are a successful country both economically and politically. Discussions also happen without visits sometimes. The form, relationship, and discussion are defined by the ministry of foreign affairs depending on the needs. We had many discussions with the European Union and some countries before, for example, it became necessary to summon the German ambassador. What is important for us is the goal that Georgia peacefully navigates any crisis occurring around us, and we achieve this goal every time”, Papuashvili concluded.
