Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Thursday said liberating the country from “liberal fascism” was the “number one” national task.

In his interview with Imedi TV, Kobakhidze stressed that neutralising liberal fascism and the corresponding political resources was of fundamental importance.

“Liberating Georgia from liberal fascism is the number one national task. Liberal fascism employs specific tools, and we must counter them effectively. Just as the United States faces its own deep state, which has been destroying the United States for all these four years, these are also the words of Donald Trump, he said directly that if America does not destroy the deep state, the deep state will destroy the United States”, the PM said.

“For four years, the deep state and these informal, oligarchic influences have been destroying the United States and not only the United States. Look at what the deep state influences have done to the world. A complete disruption of peace and tranquility worldwide. Especially around us - Ukraine, the Middle East, Syria. Misfortune is happening everywhere around us”, Kobakhidze continued.

He further elaborated that Georgia was also facing its own version of the deep state, which he identified as “liberal fascism”.

“One of the purposes of the transparency law was to shed light on the financial sources behind informal influences and the persistent attempts to incite revolutions in our country. Neutralising these tools and resources is essential to moving Georgia to a new stage of development in the next four years”, the PM added.

Kobakhidze further emphasised the importance of dismantling these informal powers, “associated with the collective United National Movement and its various branches”.

“By doing so, we can bring lasting peace and stability to the country. Neutralising liberal fascism and its political resources is crucial to achieving this goal. Alongside this, we will continue to strengthen the democratic system and pursue economic development”, he concluded.
