Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Thursday said it was his Government's duty to warn the outgoing President Salome Zouarabichvi against committing a crime through refusing to leave the presidential palace following the inauguration of the President-elect Mikheil Kavelashvili, scheduled for Sunday.

In his remarks, Kobakhidze noted it would be a “very bad” situation to forcibly remove Zourabichvili from the presidential palace and transfer her to a penitentiary.

“Warning Salome Zourabichvili and other relevant persons is our duty. This is not only our right, but also our duty. Any Government should be focused not on repression, but on crime prevention. Our task in this case is crime prevention”, the PM said.

“Therefore, it is our duty to warn Salome Zourabichvili against committing a crime and, accordingly, against participating in this ugly situation”, he concluded.
