Kakha Kaladze, the Mayor of Tbilisi and Secretary General of the ruling Georgian Dream party, on Monday expressed his strong support for the US President Donald Trump's potential to defeat the deep state, suggesting that such a victory would have positive implications for Georgia.
In his interview with Rustavi 2 TV channel, Kaladze noted that Georgia was an independent nation ready for friendship and partnership, but not at the expense of its own interests.
“The United States has a new administration and a new President elected by the American people. We have great hopes and strongly support President Trump in his efforts to defeat the deep state. Naturally, once he succeeds, it will have an impact on Georgia as well”, the ruling party official said.
“Who is satisfied with the current state of US-Georgia relations? It is unimaginable. The new administration is already saying that sanctions are not the solution, even regarding Russia. They are discussing lifting sanctions, ending the war, and transitioning to a different phase in relations”, Kaladze continued.
The official further highlighted that the Georgian Government was also dissatisfied with the current state of US-Georgia relations, and reiterated readiness to reboot these relations.
“Of course, we also do not like and are not happy with the relations we have with the United States, and we have repeatedly stated that Georgia is ready for a reboot of these relations. We need friends, partners, but not for someone to give us orders and instructions from above. We are an independent state, and our ancestors fought and shed blood for this independence”, he emphasised.
Kaladze further highlighted Georgia's track record as a reliable partner, citing its significant contributions to various international missions, where Georgian soldiers performed on par with their American counterparts despite Georgia not being a NATO member.
“We are ready for friendship, but not at the expense of our country's interests. It is neither friendship nor partnership when someone gives us instructions”, Kaladze concluded.
