Georgia’s ruling party official: Joe Wilson-initiated resolution damages its authors, not Georgia

A resolution based on information provided by US Congressman Joe Wilson will not harm Georgia and will instead be counterproductive for those promoting it, said on Tuesday Levan Machavariani, the First Deputy Chair of the ruling Georgian Dream party faction in the legislative body.
In his remarks, Machavariani noted that such decisions only damage the reputation of the institutions adopting them and have already contributed to changing public attitudes toward those institutions among Georgian citizens.
“This kind of injustice will not harm us in any way. It is counterproductive for them. The attitudes of our citizens toward these institutions have changed significantly when they adopt such meaningless resolutions. The document contains many falsehoods and is entirely infused with Joe Wilson’s ideas. We all know that Joe Wilson is paid for lobbying. This is confirmed by FARA documents. They are adopting a resolution based on Wilson’s information, but it will not harm us in any way”, the official said.
He added that, from one resolution to another and from one unfair decision or statement to the next, the institutions involved are undermining their own credibility.
“With every resolution, every unfair decision and statement, followed by yet another unfair decision and statement, they are damaging their own reputation. It is time they came to their senses, because they have entered a process from which it will be very difficult to retreat, and they will owe the Georgian people many apologies”, Machavariani concluded.
The comments came after the Democracy, Human Rights and Humanitarian Questions Committee of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly approved a draft resolution on Georgia initiated by Joe Wilson.
