Ruling Georgian Dream party to file constitutional lawsuit against opposition Gakharia for Georgia party this week

Irakli Kirtskhalia, Chair of the ruling Georgian Dream party’s parliamentary faction, said on Monday that a constitutional lawsuit would be filed with the Constitutional Court this week against the Gakharia for Georgia party, adding it to the list of parties already named in a lawsuit submitted by the ruling party.

In his remarks, Kirtskhalia addressed questions about why the party had not been included in the original lawsuit.

“The answer is very simple. We all remember their plans very well. They intended to enter Parliament, after which their mandates were recognised. To be honest, our political team gave them a chance to genuinely engage in parliamentary life, despite their past and their direct coalition with the United National Movement. But what did we see? First, a blatant and brazen refusal to recognise the constitutional order in our country. Second, numerous destructive actions related to this, both in their public statements and in their conduct within Parliament”, he said.

Kirtskhalia further argued that the public was well aware of whose interests the party represented.

“It does not matter what colour or electoral number you have when you serve the insidious agenda pursued by the agent network of the collective United National Movement. For our political team, this is tantamount to betraying the interests of the country”, he said.

He also noted that the lawsuit did not seek the termination of the mandates of individual deputies serving in Parliament or municipal councils.
