Irakli Kirtskhalia, the Chair of the ruling Georgian Dream party faction in the legislative body, on Tuesday responded to the recall of German Ambassador Peter Fischer, saying Germany should ask subjective questions to the Ambassador.
In his remarks, Kirtskhalia noted that it would be right for Germany not to have an Ambassador like Fischer working in a country with which it wanted to have a partnership and warm relations.
“It would be right for Germany not to have such an ambassador [as Fischer] working in a country with which it wants to have a partnership and warm relationship. [Fischer] should be asked subjective questions about why he was encouraging extremism in our country, why he was interfering so rudely and brazenly in the country's internal affairs, why he was directly involved in the pre-election campaign, it would be right to ask why he was making statements and organising forums against the backdrop of offensive banners, and a simple question - why he was a member of the collective [United] National Movement [opposition]”, Kirtskhalia said.
The German Foreign Ministry has recalled its Ambassador to Georgia for consultations.
Questions about Peter Fischer’s activities and controversial actions have already arisen in Germany. The issue is being investigated by the country’s most popular and highly rated party, Alternative for Germany (AfD), which is seeking answers from the Foreign Ministry.
