Georgian PM: Eagle Hills project will boost Georgia’s economy significantly

Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Wednesday highlighted the economic significance of the Eagle Hills project, describing it as a major initiative that would strengthen the country’s development and protect national interests.

The Prime Minister stressed that Georgia’s economic indicators are improving, with poverty reduced to 9.4% from 30%.

“Poverty in our country is still at 9.4%, down from 30%. This year, for the first time, our economy will exceed $10,000 per capita and surpass GEL 100 billion in total. This is what our country needs to raise the quality of life and well-being of our population. Nothing will hinder this”, he said.

The Prime Minister also drew a distinction between past instances of speculative manipulation in Georgia, citing the Namakhvani hydroelectric project as an example, and the present, where the state has stronger mechanisms to protect national interests.

“Today, the state is at the level of its mission. This is not the time of Namakhvani, when specific speculators managed to harm Georgia. Of course, no individual political force will succeed in doing so now. These politicians will not be able to carry out such manipulations”, he noted.

Kobakhidze emphasised that current large-scale projects, such as Eagle Hills, would proceed without interference, benefiting multiple sectors including construction and energy.

“Today, the state is on a completely different level, and our national interests will be protected everywhere. This applies to hydroelectric power plants, the construction sector, or the implementation of projects in any other area. Uninterrupted project implementation will be ensured wherever it aligns with our national interests. The Eagle Hills project is precisely one such special and outstanding project”, he concluded.
