Georgian Parliament Speaker: NGO system “greatest evil” the West created in Eastern Europe’s new democracies

Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili on Friday said the non-governmental organisation system was the greatest evil that the West had created in the countries of new democracies in Eastern Europe, as it was an attempt to replace the public with small lobbying groups pursuing their interests.
Papuashvili responded to the statement of Elon Musk, the founder of Tesla and SpaceX, saying “the NGO bureaucracy controls Europe, depriving people of democracy”.
“This is one of the most important statements, and this statement should give another impetus to the discussion of this issue and put an end to the attitude that has been formed over decades. The United States strategy states that Europe has today become a minority Government, there are minority governments in European countries. For years, they have tried to portray NGOs as actually representing the public and the people. Right before our eyes, they have tried to replace the public with NGOs that are not elected by anyone and do not represent anyone. The 20-member ISFED, the 50-member GYLA, or the 30-member Transparency International represent no one in this country except themselves and their donors”, the Speaker said.
“This NGO system, which was imposed especially on developing countries, is the greatest evil that the West created in the countries of new democracies in Eastern Europe, because it was an attempt to replace the public with small lobbying groups that pursue their interests. This is exactly what Elon Musk is talking about when he says that NGOs run Europe. It is important that this voice was heard from America today. It must be said that the operation that has been going on for years has finally been exposed. Who do ISFED, Transparency, etc. represent? If they are registered in Estonia and are organising schemes to bring in black money from Estonia, this is all the exposure of this”, he concluded.
