Parliament official positively assesses phone call between Georgian PM, US Secretary of State

Gia Volski, an MP from the ruling Georgian Dream party and the first vice speaker of the Parliament, on Tuesday positively assessed the phone conversation between Georgian prime minister Irakli Kobakhidze and US secretary of state Marco Rubio, calling it not an ordinary event as Rubio had the authority to speak on behalf of the state.

In his remarks, Volski criticised the domestic opposition for misinterpreting this conversation, noting that they try to use any issue as a basis for achieving their dark goals.

“This call is not an ordinary, everyday event. Rubio is the secretary of state, who has the authority to speak on behalf of the state. So, a businesslike conversation, which was positively assessed by both sides, is of course clear to us. It is clear to those who are against this and, in general, against the good of Georgia”, Volski said.

“This drives them into hysteria, which leads to the misinterpretations we often hear. It is regrettable. Once again, this underscores that we have a large group of unpatriotic individuals internally, who try every day to use any issue to achieve their own dark goals. Whenever something positive happens, they distort it with interpretations detached from reality”, he concluded.
