Georgia views peace as existential priority amid ongoing occupation of historic regions, says Georgian PM

At the plenary session of the international forum in Turkmenistan titled Peace and Trust: A Shared Goal for a Sustainable Future, Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Friday emphasised that, alongside the ongoing occupation of two of its historic regions, Georgia regards peace not merely as a political choice but as an existential priority.
“The principles of peace and trust are not just ideals; they are the most crucial instruments for ensuring global stability”, the Prime Minister said.
Kobakhidze further thanked the Turkmen Government for its unwavering commitment to promoting dialogue, cooperation, and constructive engagement both regionally and globally.
“It is a great honour to take part in this important forum dedicated to the International Year of Peace and Trust, established by the United Nations at Turkmenistan’s initiative. I sincerely thank the Government of Turkmenistan for its unwavering commitment to promoting dialogue, cooperation, and constructive engagement at both regional and global levels”, he continued.
The PM further added that the session’s theme - Peace and Trust: A Shared Goal for a Sustainable Future - fully reflected Georgia’s values and foreign policy priorities.
“Today, more than ever, the global community faces complex challenges - from geopolitical tensions and armed conflicts to climate change and economic instability. In this context, the principles of peace and trust are not merely ideals; they are the most vital instruments for ensuring global stability. On the backdrop of the ongoing occupation of our two historic regions, Georgia regards peace not only as a political choice but as an existential priority”, Kobakhidze concluded.
