Georgia’s foreign policy is closely intertwined with all aspects of domestic politics and is strongly supported by the Government, said on Monday Georgian Foreign Minister Maka Botchorishvili during her speech at the Ambassadors’ Conference.
She emphasised that only through collective efforts can the country better protect its interests on the international stage.
“As our country develops, Georgia’s perspectives evolve, and new opportunities emerge. The contribution of our diplomatic service is essential in achieving these milestones”, the FM said.
Opening the annual Ambassadors’ Conference, the Foreign Minister highlighted that the gathering provides an excellent opportunity to review past achievements, assess current realities, and set priorities for the coming year.
Botchorishvili stressed the challenging nature of the international environment, describing it as fast-changing, often unpredictable, and directly impactful on Georgia.
She underlined the importance of a consistent, pragmatic, and nationally grounded foreign policy in maintaining peace and security in the country.
“The existing security challenges, geopolitical shifts, and growing uncertainty increase our responsibility to effectively implement Georgia’s foreign policy priorities. In this context, the resilience of our diplomatic service is of particular importance for a country facing the serious challenge of two occupied regions and the peaceful restoration of territorial integrity”, she added.
The Minister stressed that, despite these security challenges, Georgia has achieved remarkable development outcomes in recent years. Increased international trade, strengthened regional transit and logistics positions, and growing investor interest in Georgia highlight the progress made, with the foreign service playing a critical role.
She also noted that new opportunities come with new challenges, requiring the strengthening of sovereign foreign policy, a deep understanding of national interests, and the effective use of diplomatic tools.
Botchorishvili also addressed external interference aimed at undermining Georgia’s political choices, stability, and institutional credibility.
“To counter hybrid methods, disinformation, political and economic pressure, and divisive narratives, our foreign service represents a critical frontline in defending Georgia’s national interests”, she said, referring to artificial obstacles created by a former President that have posed additional challenges for the diplomatic service.
Highlighting recent appointments, she noted that out of Georgia’s 82 diplomatic missions, 36 heads of missions were appointed in 2025 - a crucial step to ensure the proper functioning of the diplomatic service.
Botchorishvili announced the launch of a fundamental reform of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, aimed at creating a strong, flexible, and efficient diplomatic service. The reform seeks to integrate young, educated professionals alongside experienced diplomats to advance Georgia’s interests internationally.
In parallel, Georgia has begun developing its foreign assistance mechanisms, positioning the country for a new role on the global stage and strengthening international cooperation in line with national interests.
The Foreign Minister expressed her gratitude to the President, Prime Minister, Speaker of Parliament, and all government members for their support and cooperation.
“Only through joint efforts can we better protect our country’s interests internationally. Dear Ambassadors, I wish you productive work during this conference and success in your endeavors. I am confident that together we will further strengthen our country’s positions on the global stage”, Botchorishvili concluded.
