Georgian Parliament official claims Brussels has been sidelined as US holds key to global processes

Gia Volski, an MP from the ruling Georgian Dream party and the First Vice Speaker of the Parliament, on Sunday said that Georgia’s geographic position represents “the world of tomorrow” and is a serious strategic attribute that requires stability for the country.

In his interview with Imedi TV, Volski reviewed the interest major global players, including the European Union, have in Georgia and the instruments they use to pursue their interests.

“For several days now, there has been talk about development with Russia, but the attitude toward Georgia is largely determined by the fact that Georgia’s geographic location is the world of tomorrow - a serious component of the future that needs stability for us. For others, what is needed is short-term chaos and involvement in confrontation so that everything remains under control”, the Parliament official said.

He further claimed that “dirty politics” toward Georgia has recently shifted largely toward Brussels, after the United States put forward its pragmatic national interests.

“It so happened that the dirty politics directed toward Georgia largely shifted toward Brussels once the US prioritised its own country's pragmatic interests. This is not a matter of personal attitude. There are claims now that this is happening due to Trump’s personality. Brussels has been left sidelined; it has distanced itself from these problems and negotiations - it is no longer involved. No matter how much Zelensky travels to various capitals, the primary resource - both for negotiations and for shaping global developments - obviously remains in the hands of the US”, Volski concluded.
