Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Thursday said his Government was fully committed to defending the country’s national interests and that it was evident to everyone that the authorities had not only chosen the right path of peace, but had also ensured that “Georgia remains firmly on this path”.
In his interview with Imedi TV, Kobakhidze noted that the Georgian public had clearly seen that the ruling Georgian Dream party was the only political force capable of preserving peace, ensuring stability, and simultaneously stimulating economic growth in the country.
“The main responsibility we bear is maintaining peace and calm in the country. We have made significant progress in this direction. You may recall that over the past four years, there were five attempts at revolution, yet we managed to bring stability into our political life”, the PM said.
He added that his Government was also responsible for economic development, which he emphasised cannot exist without peace and stability, and further pointed out that Georgia currently demonstrates strong economic indicators, ranking first in Europe in terms of five-year economic growth.
“Over the past five years, Georgia’s average annual economic growth has been 9.3 percent. There is no comparable figure in Europe. We are in first place in terms of economic growth. This is our responsibility; everything else is secondary”, Kobakhidze continued.
The Prime Minister also pointed out that unfair approaches toward Georgia still persist, expressing hope that such attitudes will change in the future. However, he stressed that the Government was prepared for all challenges.
“Based on our experience, we have proven to Georgian society that we are the only force capable of maintaining peace, ensuring stability, and at the same time stimulating economic growth in Georgia. This has been confirmed by our years of governance”, he concluded.
