Georgia’s ruling party official highlights “very positive” messages from top US officials

Irakli Kirtskhalia, the Chair of the ruling Georgian Dream party faction in the legislative body, on Monday said the Georgian Government was ready to move toward a qualitatively new relationship with its historically strategic partner, following meetings between Georgian officials and senior representatives of the US administration.

In his remarks, Kirtskhalia noted that while key messages were delivered, the next steps depend on the Trump administration.

“This meeting is clearly welcome and a very positive development. Very positive messages came from the top officials of the US administration. As for our position, it is well known to our society and to the new administration that our country and Government are ready for a qualitatively new relationship with the US”, he said.

The official further emphasised that, according to US statements, the administration had inherited a particularly challenging legacy in its relations with Georgia.

“Let us wait for the developments between the two countries. I can confidently say that this concerns the development of relations between two strategic partners. How the damaged relations caused by the previous administration will be restored was emphasised directly by our American friends”, Kirtskhalia concluded.

Georgian President Mikheil Kavelashvili and Minister of Foreign Affairs Maka Botchorishvili attended an official reception hosted by the President of the International Olympic Committee Kirsty Coventry.

During the event, President Kavelashvili and Minister Botchorishvili met with leaders from various countries, including US Vice President JD Vance and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
