Georgian Parliament official: law on protection of minors prohibits “inappropriate” conduct in educational settings

Archil Gorduladze, the chair of the Georgian Parliament’s legal affairs committee, on Saturday said that the law on the protection of minors explicitly prohibits situations in which a man dressed as a woman (a drag queen) enters a kindergarten or when such behaviour is celebrated together with children.
Speaking on Imedi TV show Open Air - Debates, Gorduladze responded to critics of the legislation, arguing that the law addresses clear and existing issues rather than hypothetical scenarios.
“What situation do we have now, and what does the law generally say? It prohibits very clear and simple issues that are not hypothetical future scenarios. The law prohibits exactly this - when a man dressed as a woman, a drag queen, enters a kindergarten. The law prohibits exactly this - when such behaviour is celebrated with children. It is not just about accepting different opinions; rather, it is about being told that we must celebrate it, and that children should celebrate the presence of a provocatively dressed, vulgarly dressed man in women’s clothing”, he said.
He also referenced examples from abroad, claiming that similar practices were being introduced into educational systems in countries like Germany.
“Please take a close look at this image. This is exactly the kind of material I mentioned at the beginning of the program - for example, in Germany, there are teaching materials divided by age groups that are introduced into kindergartens and schools, brought in by drag queens, where promotion and propaganda take place”, Gorduladze stressed.
Additionally, the official linked these developments to broader cultural trends, suggesting that they could lead to controversial public events and, in his view, even expressions that may be perceived as offensive to religion.
“What are the results of this propaganda, and what does it ultimately lead to? It leads, for example, to events like the opening ceremony of the 2024 Olympics, where there are direct insults to religion”, Gorduladze concluded.
