Nikoloz Samkharadze, the chair of the foreign relations committee of the Georgian Parliament, on Thursday said the Georgian parliamentary delegation asked congress members to carefully examine legislative initiatives that are sometimes introduced by individual lawmakers and clearly carry an anti-Georgian character.
In his remarks over the visit to the United States, Samkharadze noted that the discussions focused on Georgia-United States relations, security issues, ongoing developments in the region, and the development of the Middle Corridor.
“Our last meeting was with Keith Self, who chairs the Europe Subcommittee. During the day I also met with Randy Fine, Mike Turner, Ryan Zinke, and Anna Paulina Luna. The main topic of conversation was Georgian-American relations and moving these relations to a new stage. However, we also reviewed a wide range of issues. We mainly discussed security matters, developments in our region, and the issue of occupation. We also received information from congress members about developments in Iran”, he said.
He added that US lawmakers also expressed interest in the development of the Middle Corridor and Georgia’s role in it.
“Accordingly, we had very interesting conversations and dialogue. We also asked congress members to carefully examine legislative initiatives that are sometimes introduced by individual lawmakers and clearly carry an anti-Georgian character, so that the positive dynamics that have recently emerged in our relations are not harmed”, he concluded.
