Georgia is the only country that has organised the evacuation of its citizens from regions affected by conflict and active hostilities where commercial flights have been suspended, said on Wednesday Georgian Parliament speaker Shalva Papuashvili.
In his interview with Rustavi 2 TV channel, Papuashvili noted that two evacuation flights have already been completed and a third flight is also scheduled.
“All citizens who need assistance are being brought out of the region by our government. Our embassies in all regions are, of course, in contact 24 hours a day. Every citizen who is currently in the region can reach out to them and inquire about available options. Fortunately, there are not many Georgian citizens in Iran affected by the situation, but the embassy there is also in contact with everyone who might need assistance”, the speaker said.
Papuashvili also noted that one well-known individual arrived on one of the evacuation flights earlier today and publicly stated that he had returned to Georgia using a flight organised by the Georgian government.
“He also mentioned that he is a citizen of the United Kingdom and had contacted the British embassy as well but has not yet received a response. This shows our attitude toward our citizens and the responsibility with which we approach this issue. The government is taking care of its citizens”, he concluded.
