Georgian prime minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Saturday addressed the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in Budapest, highlighting his government's commitment to peace and economic resilience in an increasingly fragmented global landscape.
In his address, Kobakhidze emphasised that the current international environment was defined by rising uncertainty, pointing to the ongoing war in Ukraine and conflicts in the Middle East as tragic reminders of the human cost of geopolitical confrontation - a cost, he noted, that Georgia understands all too well.
“The global environment today is characterised by growing uncertainty. The ongoing war in Ukraine and the conflicts in the Middle East remind us of the tragic cost of geopolitical confrontations - human lives. Georgia knows this very well”, he said.
The prime minister stressed that Georgia has chosen a path focused on stability, cooperation, and economic development rather than confrontation.
“We sincerely hope that peace will soon be restored in neighbouring regions and that military confrontation will be replaced by diplomatic and political dialogue. While the international system is increasingly shaped by conflicts, Georgia has chosen a different path. We believe in connectivity and cooperation; we do not believe in confrontation. Our goal is to create opportunities for cooperation even when the world is fragmented”, Kobakhidze noted.
He further added that the country’s current stability is not coincidental but stems from consistent and pragmatic policymaking, including a commitment to peace and predictable governance.
“The stability that Georgia possesses today is not accidental. It is the outcome of deliberate and pragmatic policy. Predictable governance and commitment to peace have played a significant role in strengthening our economy and increasing national resilience. As a result of this approach, Georgia stands out; it has one of the fastest economic growth rates in Europe - an average annual 9.3% since 2021”, he continued.
Kobakhidze also pointed to ongoing transformations in the South Caucasus region, noting emerging opportunities for peace, trade, and regional cooperation.
“Our region - the South Caucasus - is also undergoing significant transformation. New opportunities are emerging for peace, connectivity, and economic cooperation. Georgia firmly supports initiatives that promote stability, dialogue, and regional partnership. Our vision is clear - the region should be defined by the ability to connect, trade, and cooperate, and not by conflicts or division”, Kobakhidze concluded.
