Georgian prime minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Saturday delivered a keynote address at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in Budapest, highlighting the deep-rooted and expanding relationship between Georgia and Hungary.

In his address, Kobakhidze characterised Hungary as more than just a partner, describing it as a nation linked to Georgia through shared values, mutual respect, and a steadily growing cooperation.

Kobakhidze underscored the importance of the bilateral bond, noting that the partnership is set to strengthen further across various sectors in the coming years.

“I would like to emphasise how much Georgia values friendship and partnership with this most beautiful country, Hungary. For Georgia, Hungary is not just a partner; it is a country with which we are bound by close and constantly growing relations based on shared values and mutual respect. Our partnership continues to develop in many fields, and I am confident that in the coming years it will become even stronger”, the PM said.

The prime minister criticised what he described as “Brussels bureaucracy”, arguing that it was opposing governments that prioritise national sovereignty and traditional values.

“Unfortunately, the Brussels bureaucracy, which lacks sovereignty, cannot tolerate any sovereign government that defends its country's independence and traditional values. They find it unacceptable to visit this country and see authentic Hungary, unlike many European countries that have essentially lost their own identity. They find it unacceptable that Hungary, thanks to its patriotic government, effectively protects itself from gender propaganda, migration, and other evils that represent an existential problem for modern Europe”, Kobakhidze noted.

He further expressed hope that Hungary’s upcoming parliamentary elections would proceed without external interference, stressing the importance of democratic processes free from outside influence.

“We hope that the upcoming parliamentary elections, which are decisive not only for Hungary but also for the future of Europe, will be held without gross interference from Brussels bureaucracy. Democracy must prevail over external interference in Hungary's democratic elections”, he stressed.

Kobakhidze praised Viktor Orbán’s leadership, stating that his policies and stance have played a significant role not only for Hungary but also for countries like Georgia, which seek to preserve sovereignty and identity in a complex geopolitical environment.

“I would like to personally thank prime minister Viktor Orbán for his firm support of Georgia. He is a true fighter for his country; his words and actions constantly express respect and care for the Georgian people. If it were not for prime minister Orbán's strong leadership and his courageous fight against Brussels bureaucracy to defend Hungary's national interests, it would have been far more difficult for Georgia to protect its own democracy, national sovereignty, and identity. Viktor Orbán's leadership is important not only for Hungary but for all of Europe. Therefore, I wish prime minister Orbán a long tenure in the position of leader of Hungary”, the prime minister said.

“In conclusion, I wish success to all people around the world who remain faithful to the idea of defending their country's independence, preserving traditional values, and respecting the democratic choice of citizens in the face of this growing ideological pressure”, Kobakhidze concluded.
