Georgian Parliament official claims European values turned into tool of political pressure and speculation

European and democratic values have turned into tools for political blackmail and speculation, said on Friday Irakli Kadagishvili, the chair of the Georgian Parliament’s regional policy and self-government committee.
In his remarks, Kadagishvili criticised Brussels’ silence on the brutal dispersal of a peaceful protest in Copenhagen.
“What may happen in EU countries, including this type of brutal behavior by law enforcement, can be quietly ignored. However, when it comes to Georgia, where they have specific political interests, they will not hesitate to issue European resolutions, even over minor misconduct during the dispersal of a violent rally”, the official said.
Kadagishvili further argued that this double standard exposes a deeper issue within international politics.
“This once again demonstrates that, in reality, European values and democratic values have today become weapons of political blackmail and speculation”, the MP concluded.
