Ruling party Sec Gen says Georgia has not escalated relations with Ukraine

Kakha Kaladze, the Mayor of Tbilisi and Secretary General of the ruling Georgian Dream party, on Thursday said the Georgian Government had not escalated relations with Ukraine, emphasising that throughout this entire period, Georgia has merely been in a responsive mode and maintaining a one-sided friendship.

In his remarks, Kaladze noted that he understands the incredibly difficult situation Ukraine is currently facing and, consequently, wishes the country peace.

“We have not escalated relations. On the contrary, during this entire period we were in a defensive mode, in a responsive mode, and our responses were very correct. We were in a one-sided friendship mode. This is, of course, disappointing, because we consider Ukraine and the Ukrainian people our friends. Therefore, the statements and in some cases specific actions taken toward Georgia were disappointing”, he said.

“However, we also fully understand how difficult the situation in Ukraine is and what processes are ongoing. Therefore, I would like to wish peace first and foremost to the Ukrainian people”, Kaladze concluded.
