Georgia ranks first worldwide for 13-year prosperity progress since 2012, reaches new historic high

The Atlantic Council on Tuesday published its 2026 Freedom and Prosperity Indexes, classifying Georgia as a country with moderate freedom and moderate prosperity. According to the report, Georgia is among the countries that have demonstrated sustained long-term progress.

Georgia ranked first in the world for improvement in the Prosperity Index over the 13-year period from 2013 to 2025.

The country also achieved a new historic high, scoring 78.2% on the index’s 100-point scale. Since 2012, Georgia has climbed 21 positions in the global prosperity ranking and improved its overall prosperity score by 8.6 points, the largest increase recorded worldwide.

The Prosperity Index is based on six pillars: income, environmental quality, protection of minority rights, public health, education, and equality.

The index ranks 171 countries and territories in four categories: high prosperity, moderate prosperity, low prosperity, and very low prosperity. Georgia was placed in the moderate prosperity category and ranked 43rd globally.

According to the report, the country is now just one position away from qualifying for the high prosperity category.

In the global prosperity rankings, Georgia outperformed all European Union candidate countries, as well as five EU and NATO member states: Bulgaria, Türkiye, Albania, North Macedonia, and Montenegro.

In the political freedom category, Georgia received its highest score in the Elections indicator, earning 77.3%, followed by Civil Liberties with 75.2%.

Georgia further ranked among the top 40 countries worldwide for the protection of minority rights, placing 39th.

The Freedom and Prosperity Indexes are produced by the Atlantic Council's Freedom and Prosperity Center.

The assessment is primarily based on data from the World Bank’s Worldwide Governance Indicators, the United Nations, the Fraser Institute, The Heritage Foundation, and other international research organisations, expert assessments, and aggregated global indices.
