Georgia will mark the 1 700th anniversary of Christianity being declared the state religion with a series of large-scale educational and cultural events.
The anniversary program was finalised during a meeting of the joint commission of the government of Georgia and the Patriarchate.
The co-chairs of the commission are the prime minister of Georgia Irakli Kobakhidze and the Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia, Archbishop of Mtskheta-Tbilisi, Metropolitan of Bichvinta and Tskhum-Abkhazia, His Holiness and Beatitude Shio III.
The commemorative events are scheduled to launch on May 26 and will expand significantly starting June 1, featuring a diverse lineup of cultural initiatives, educational programs, scientific conferences, and student expeditions.
The celebrations will culminate on October 14, coinciding with the feast of Svetitskhovloba, and will feature a major symposium organized under the theme “God, Homeland, Human Being”.
The nationwide events are being organised through close, ongoing coordination between the government of Georgia and the Georgian Patriarchate.
