Georgian PM announces major expansion of Tbilisi International Airport

Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Monday announced the launch of one of the largest expansion and development projects for Shota Rustaveli Tbilisi International Airport, saying the initiative marked another important result of the Government's consistent policy.
In his remarks, Kobakhidze noted that upon completion, the airport's annual passenger capacity would increase to 10 million.
Kobakhidze said that under the agreement signed between the Georgian Government and TAV Georgia, the investor would invest more than USD 150 million in the project while fully safeguarding the state's interests.
“Today we are launching one of the largest expansion and development projects for Shota Rustaveli Tbilisi International Airport, which is another important outcome of the Georgian Government's consistent policy”, he said.
“Under the agreement signed between the state and TAV Georgia, which fully protects the state's interests, the investor will invest more than USD 150 million in the project, significantly expanding the capabilities of Georgia's main international airport”, Kobakhidze continued.
He emphasised that Tbilisi International Airport was one of Georgia's most important strategic infrastructure facilities, playing a key role in the country's economic development, connectivity, tourism, and investment attractiveness.
“Modern and efficient infrastructure enhances the country's competitiveness, creates new jobs, and strengthens Georgia's position in the regional and global transport system. That is why our Government places special emphasis on implementing projects of this scale”, he said.
“Once the project is completed, the annual capacity of Tbilisi International Airport will increase to 10 million passengers. Our priority is not only to develop infrastructure but also to create a modern, comfortable environment for passengers that meets international standards”, Kobakhidze concluded.
