Georgia’s Economy Minister: development of civil aviation should be carried out based on strong institutional framework, clear responsibilities

Mariam Kvrivishvili, the Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia, on Thursday said the agreement between the United Airports of Georgia and TAV Georgia, a member company of Groupe ADP, once again confirmed Georgia’s strategic choice - the development of civil aviation should be carried out based on a strong institutional framework and clear responsibilities.
The French aviation group Groupe ADP, which is one of the largest operators of international airports on the global market, will invest approximately $150 million as part of the next stage of the development of Tbilisi Airport.
During her speech at the signing ceremony of the agreement between the United Airports of Georgia and TAV Georgia, a member company of Groupe ADP, Kvrivishvili noted that the new agreement between the state and Groupe ADP would significantly contribute to the further development of Tbilisi International Airport.
The Minister noted that the contract signed by TAV Georgia with the United Airports of Georgia, which was originally due to end in 2027, would now continue under renewed terms and approach until the end of 2031.
Additionally, she emphasised the importance of further developing the civil aviation sector.
Kvrivishvili assessed that in this process, the cooperation with the French state-owned company Groupe ADP under the renewed terms would be fruitful both for Tbilisi International Airport and for the development of the sector as a whole.
“The development of Georgia’s aviation sector is dynamic, sustainable, and irreversibly growing. This is precisely one of the reasons we decided to build a new, modern airport in Vaziani. Until the new airport begins operations in 2031, we will continue developing the aviation sector in cooperation with the French state company and under the improved terms achieved with them”, she noted.
