Georgia’s international reserves reach historic high of $7.53 billion in July 2026

The National Bank of Georgia (NBG) said on Friday that the country’s total international reserves increased by approximately 50% year-on-year in July 2026, reaching a historic high of $7.53 billion.
According to the statement, international reserves rose by $404.6 million over the course of the month.
“Reserve adequacy indicators have also improved. According to the latest assessment, the International Monetary Fund’s reserve adequacy indicator (ARA Metric) stands at 118.7%” the NBG said.
The Bank emphasized that international reserves serve as an important safeguard for the country’s macroeconomic stability. It noted that the NBG’s long-term policy has consistently focused on accumulating reserves and ensuring the effective management of reserve assets.
“When foreign exchange market conditions and the macroeconomic environment allow, the National Bank replenishes foreign exchange reserves. In 2026, amid favorable conditions in the foreign exchange market, the NBG continued to increase reserves, with total net purchases amounting to $2.0784 billion in January-June 2026. Meanwhile, data on net purchases for July 2026 will be published on August 25”, the statement said.
The NBG also highlighted that in 2024 it diversified its reserves by making its first investments in gold, describing the move as a strategic decision. Since then, the value of the gold holdings has increased significantly, further contributing to the growth of total international reserves.
In June 2026, the NBG purchased an additional $100 million worth of monetary gold for inclusion in the country’s international reserves. As a result, by July 2026, gold accounted for 13.5% of total international reserves, valued at $1.0141 billion.
