Georgian PM highlights record agri-food exports, growing youth interest in agriculture

Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Saturday said Georgian agri-food products were strengthening their position in international markets, with exports to more than 110 countries reaching a historic record of $1.845 billion last year.

Kobakhidze made the remarks at an event marking Farmer’s Day, highlighting the performance of Georgia’s agricultural sector and Government programmes aimed at supporting farmers, increasing local production and strengthening the country’s export potential.

“A number of Government programmes are in place to support farmers and strengthen rural Georgia. Alongside the hard work and professionalism of our farmers, consistent Government policy has played a major role in the continued and steady strengthening of agriculture. It is precisely the result of this policy that Georgian agri-food products are establishing a strong position in international markets”, he said.

According to the Prime Minister, the positive trend has continued in 2026, with agri-food exports during the first seven months of the year already 14% higher than in the same period of the previous year.

“Last year, agri-food exports to more than 110 countries around the world reached a historic record of $1.845 billion. The upward trend is continuing this year as well, and based on the data for the first seven months, exports are already 14% higher than during the same period last year. Overall, this sector currently accounts for nearly a quarter, or 24%, of Georgia’s total exports”, Kobakhidze noted.

“To further consolidate the results achieved, increase local production, replace imports and strengthen export potential, this year we launched the unified State Programme for Agro-Co-Financing and the Farmers’ Registry”, he continued.

He also highlighted the growing participation of young people in agriculture, describing their increasing interest in the sector as an encouraging development.

“It is particularly encouraging that young people are becoming increasingly interested in this sector. The number of women farmers is also growing, bringing new energy to agriculture. Young people are bringing new knowledge, modern technologies and the energy needed for the continuous strengthening and development of Georgian agriculture. Once again, I would like to thank every farmer. It is the result of your tireless work that Georgian land has become a real economic force for our country and a solid foundation for development. Once again, I congratulate you on Farmer’s Day and wish each of you success”, Kobakhidze concluded.
