Georgia’s Economy Minister: high growth in 2026 to go hand in hand with job creation, poverty reduction, public welfare

Mariam Kvrivishvili, the Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia, on Wednesday said that along with ensuring high economic growth in 2026, the Government’s main priority remains the creation of new jobs, the reduction of poverty, and the improvement of citizens’ well-being.

In her remarks, Kvrivishvili emphasised a historically large investment of $6.6 billion, which would be directed toward the development of the largest real estate project in Tbilisi and Gonio, stressing that this project would create an additional 24,000 new jobs, while the state budget would receive more than 700 million annually in revenues.

According to the Minister, this would have a directly proportional impact on the well-being of every citizen of the country.

She also highlighted the completion of a historic railway modernization project, finalised at the end of this year. The project involved an investment of approximately ₾1 billion and, as noted by the Minister, will double the capacity of Georgian Railways, significantly strengthening the country’s transit and logistics role in the region.

“It is especially gratifying that we have record figures in the country’s tourism and aviation sectors as well. Notably, our country received a record $3.7 billion in revenue from the hospitality sector alone. Passenger traffic at all three international airports of the country was also at a record level. This, of course, was preceded by the correct policies implemented by the Government of Georgia in terms of promoting our country, ensuring the launch of new direct flights, and attracting new international airlines into Georgia’s aviation space”, she said.

She also noted that expectations for the coming year were also very positive.

“Our ambition is for 2026 to be better than the previous year. Alongside ensuring high economic growth in 2026, our main priorities remain job creation, poverty reduction, and increasing public welfare. At the same time, we will launch and continue several historic projects, including completing the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway, moving the Anaklia deep-sea port into an active construction phase, and placing strong emphasis on the further development of the country’s energy sector, as this year we have already introduced several important initiatives aimed directly at strengthening the sector”, Kvrivishvili concluded.
