Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Monday said that as global trade routes were being reassessed, Georgia was emerging as a centre of regional stability and logistics, with ongoing reforms in the customs sector playing a decisive role.

In his speech during an event dedicated to International Customs Day, Kobakhidze noted that Georgia had successfully implemented a computerised transit system compatible with the European Union, enabling the seamless movement of goods with a single declaration and a single guarantee across the EU and 39 countries that are members of the relevant convention.

“Today, as global trade routes are undergoing reassessment, our country is becoming a regional hub for stability and logistics. Reforms in the customs sector are crucial in this process. Alongside growing export and import indicators, Georgia has successfully introduced an EU-compatible computerised transit system. This system ensures the uninterrupted movement of cargo with one declaration and one guarantee across the European Union and 39 convention member states”, the PM said.

He also noted that, with the support of the Asian Development Bank, active work was underway on joint customs checkpoint projects with Azerbaijan and Armenia, describing them as a strong example of regional cooperation.
