Georgian Parliament Speaker says IMF data confirms Government’s “people-first” approach

Georgian Parliament speaker Shalva Papuashvili on Thursday addressed the latest International Monetary Fund projections, which rank Georgia among the world’s top three countries for progress in real and purchasing power economic prosperity between 2013 and 2031.

Papuashvili noted that Georgia’s actual results consistently exceed initial forecasts, a trend he believes validates the current administration's policy direction.

The speaker emphasised that these economic milestones are a direct result of the government’s refusal to prioritise foreign interests over those of the Georgian people.

“This demonstrates one thing: how correctly the Georgian government is acting by operating in the interests of its own people rather than those of other countries, including the interests of Brussels. Once again, I will emphasise: if we had listened to Brussels, today we would be economically ruined and, most likely, another country that has gone through war”, he said.

“Fortunately, representatives of Brussels and some other capitals did not find people in the Georgian government and offices who stand on one leg before Brussels. Instead, they found those who defend the interests of their own nation, and that is exactly the result. This is the benefit of independence, and we can see in other countries what the cost of standing on one leg is - countries that are engulfed in the turmoil of war and are now practically dependent on how quickly they will be admitted to the European Union, when negotiations will be opened for them, and what results they will have”, Papuashvili concluded.
