Georgia’s ruling party Sec Gen calls Magyar’s remarks “very important”, rejects foreign interference in domestic politics

Kakha Kaladze, the mayor of Tbilisi and secretary general of the ruling Georgian Dream party, on Thursday said that Péter Magyar made an important statement after his victory in Hungary’s parliamentary elections, noting that he does not intend to interfere in the internal affairs of other countries.

In his remarks, Kaladze emphasised that no one has the right to interfere in a country’s domestic political matters.

“This is a very important statement. No one has the right to interfere in a country’s internal political affairs, as some European states are attempting to do. This is absolutely unacceptable, and we will not allow anyone - regardless of who they are or how large the country is - to interfere in our internal political processes”, he noted.

“Viktor Orbán has been a friend not of the Georgian Dream, but of the Georgian people and the Georgian state”, he added, highlighting Hungary’s support against what he described as unfair and hostile attitudes toward Georgia.

Kaladze continued that Hungary and Slovakia were among the key countries opposing such approaches, and called for waiting to see how developments unfold.

He further emphasised the importance of elections, stating that the Georgian people alone will decide who governs the country.

“The choice of the Hungarian people was expressed through elections. One thing must be clear - elections are crucial, and in Georgia, it is always the Georgian people who decide who will be in power. There should be no illusion that someone from outside will plan, issue instructions, and determine a change of government. This will not and cannot happen”, he concluded.
