Georgian Economy Minister holds quadrilateral meeting with Turkey, Azerbaijan, and Bulgaria on green energy, regional connectivity

Mariam Kvrivishvili, the minister of economy and sustainable development of Georgia, on Friday held a quadrilateral meeting in Istanbul with her counterparts from Turkey, Azerbaijan, and Bulgaria, focusing on regional energy cooperation and the development of a cross-border green electricity transmission project.
Kvrivishvili thanked her counterparts for their strong commitment to advancing the regional initiative and emphasised the importance of the Memorandum of Understanding signed in Baku during the Ministerial Meeting of the Southern Gas Corridor Advisory Council, which laid the foundation for a shared vision of strengthening regional electricity interconnections.
The participants highlighted that regional energy security, diversification, and sustainable development can only be achieved through close coordination and joint efforts.
The Green Electricity Transmission and Trade project was identified as having significant potential to connect the region’s energy resources and renewable potential with European markets.
As a result of the meeting, the transmission system operators (TSOs) of the four countries decided to create a joint company that will finance and carry out the feasibility study and subsequently manage project implementation.
The technical assignment for the study has already been prepared and is expected to be completed within several months.
The project envisions transmitting electricity from Azerbaijan and Georgia through Turkey’s power grid to Bulgaria and further to other European markets.
The initiative was first launched at the Istanbul Energy Forum in November 2024 and formalised with a Memorandum of Understanding in Baku in April 2025.
