Georgian PM criticises European Commissioner’s remarks on US, calls them ‘strange’

Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Thursday commented on a statement by European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos, saying that Europe already faces a number of problems and that it was “strange” for a European Commissioner to be looking for an excuse for a conflict with the United States.
Kobakhidze was commenting on remarks by European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos, who said that “countries aspiring to join the European Union must sever their ties with Donald Trump’s MAGA movement in order to become members of the organisation”.
The PM said European politicians and bureaucrats would be better advised to focus on addressing the challenges facing Europe, including its relations with the United States.
“Such initiatives are very strange. Europe already has problems, and at a time when a European Commissioner is looking for an excuse for conflict with the US, this is, to put it mildly, strange. It would have been better for European politicians and bureaucrats to focus on resolving the problems facing Europe, including with the US”, he said.
“Their full attention should be directed toward improving relations with other countries. However, their attention is instead focused on fueling conflicts rather than resolving them, which is very unfortunate”, Kobakhidze concluded.
