European Parliament member András László reports “orderly”, “smooth” electoral process, highlights positive feedback from observers

European Parliament member András László, who is monitoring the ongoing parliamentary elections in Georgia, on Saturday said the process was going “orderly”.

He noted that he had asked NGOs if there were any discrepancies, and they shared positive experiences.

In his remarks, László highlighted that everything was organised “very orderly”.

“I am observing the elections with great interest and everything is going very smoothly. Voters, local NGO observers and official election staff all say that everything is very orderly”, László noted.

The EU Parliament member further added that electronic vote counting was “highly trusted” and conditions “fully” met European democratic standards.

“Rigorous ID checks are in place and the new electronic vote counting is highly trusted and the official count will also include hand-counting every ballot. This will allow to have quick results when voting stations close and leave no uncertainties. Conditions fully meet European democratic standards”, he said.

László emphasised that despite the crowds at polling stations, the process was proceeding in a “peaceful” environment.

“There are a lot of people at the polling station, with numerous observers, both local and international. We spoke with the staff and observers from non-governmental organisations. All conditions for fair and free elections are in place at this polling station. Everything is in order. We asked the NGOs if there were any discrepancies, and they shared positive experiences with us. We are also observing how the new electronic system is functioning, and as we can see, the process is proceeding smoothly. This is an important day for Georgia, and the Georgian people must decide their own future. Despite the large crowds at the polling station, the process is organised, and voters are casting their ballots in a peaceful environment”, László concluded.
