Central Election Commission Chair informs Georgian consular officials about electoral updates, electronic technologies

Giorgi Kalandarishvili, the Chair of the Central Election Commission of Georgia, on Thursday informed the Georgian consular officials about electoral updates and electronic technologies.

Kalandarishvili provided a comprehensive overview to participants in the coordination meeting of consular officials of Georgia abroad, detailing the preparations for the 2024 parliamentary elections, technological advancements, and the election administration’s activities underway.

Heads of consular institutions also took part in mock elections and tested the operation of verification and vote-counting machines in practice.

“Today is a Global Election Day and it holds special symbolism that we have a meeting with high-ranking officials of the Consulate. We shared with them information about the innovative services and technologies that will be presented on a large scale during the October 26 elections. It is important for us to have close communication with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in order to ensure, within our competence, that the elections are held in accordance with international standards through joint efforts. I would like to thank the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and personally Khatuna Totladze for the opportunity to participate in this event”, Kalandarishvili said.

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Khatuna Totladze said that it was “important” for consular officials to be informed about the new technologies and opportunities introduced by the CEC.

“I would like to extend my sincere appreciation to the CEC for collaborating with us to enhance coordination and ensure consular officials are well informed about the new technologies and opportunities introduced by the CEC. I am confident that by further deepening our understanding of these technologies, we will enhance our ability to safeguard the interests of our citizens even more effectively”, she noted.

The coordination meeting of consular officials of Georgia abroad is organised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Tbilisi. Within the framework of the five-day meeting, the participants will discuss important matters related to consular activities.
