Georgian PM says domestic radical opposition doomed to “great defeat” in upcoming local elections

Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Monday said the domestic radical opposition was “absolutely discredited” due to the public's clear understanding and evaluation of political events.

In his remarks, Kobakhidze asserted that the opposition, regardless of its configuration, was “doomed to a very big defeat” in the upcoming local self-governance elections.

Kobakhidze highlighted the internal strife within the radical opposition, noting that “you really see how difficult the situation is in the radical opposition, they are even at odds with each other. Two parties are cursing two other parties because they decided to participate in the local self-governance elections, this is not interesting for us”.

“In any configuration and in any format, we will win both the mayoral and city council elections with a large margin in all 64 municipalities, this is evidenced by the studies that we have, and everyone sees the overall picture of what the public's attitude is. The public sees and evaluates everything very well, and because of this, the radical opposition is absolutely discredited in our country”, the PM said.

The Government head further added that the list of anti-national and anti-state actions made by the domestic opposition were quite extensive and recalled their actions to harm the national interests, to prevent the country from receiving EU membership candidate status and opening accession talks.

“In such conditions, no one should be surprised that the opposition is even more weakened than it was a year ago before the parliamentary elections. Accordingly, the opposition, in any configuration, is doomed, of course, to a very big defeat”, he concluded.
