Kakha Kaladze, the Mayor of Tbilisi and Secretary General of the ruling Georgian Dream party, said on Tuesday that outgoing German Ambassador Peter Fischer had, through his actions and public statements, demonstrated “how an ambassador should not behave”.
Commenting on Fischer’s social media post marking the end of his diplomatic mission in Georgia, Kaladze claimed the Ambassador had acted contrary to diplomatic norms and had sought to damage relations between the two countries.
“Fischer is a clear example of how an ambassador should not behave. Through his actions and statements, he has demonstrated this to Georgian society. He has acted contrary to established diplomatic norms, and his remarks, assessments, as well as his encouragement and support of extremist and violent groups, are highly concerning. His conduct serves as a serious example of what diplomatic behavior should not look like”, Kaladze said.
“He did everything possible not only to avoid contributing positively to the existing relations between our two states, but to undermine them”, he added.
Kaladze also claimed Fischer represented what he described as “external forces” operating in Georgia through local “agents.”
“When we talk about agents, there are specific individuals inside the country. They may form groups or even political parties, but everyone should know that they are agents directed from abroad”, he said.
“When we spoke about the ‘Global War Party’ and the deep state, nobody believed us. You remember how people mocked these claims. But when the current President of the United States openly spoke about these issues, people realised we had not been mistaken”, Kaladze continued.
He further alleged that Fischer represented those external forces that, through local agents, had sought to organise coups, create confrontation, establish extremist and violent groups, and carry out revolutions in Georgia.
